4shared.com Support Team has an ability to monitor files and deactivate/ban the ones’ which break our Terms of Use (http://www.4shared.com/terms.jsp). We remove illegal material or take other requested by the copyright owner actions in 12 to 24 hours after we get an infringement notice. Here is the list of the actions 4shared usually takes in order to enforce its copyright policy:

-adding to download black list (automatically disables files, which contain certain words from being downloaded)
-adding to search black list (automatically disables files, which contain certain words from being shown in 4shared.com search)
-banning (deactivating) files/folders
-banning files by hash-code
-banning publisher’s account/IP.

We have an Abuse Team, which daily monitors uploaded files, also via the 4shared.com search engine (http://search.4shared.com/network/search.jsp) and takes the abovementioned steps to disable illegal content.

We have filters, which automatically block files with certain names, as is already mentioned, and the tool to detect files’ hash-code, which helps to prevent uploading and downloading of the banned files again.

Moreover, we have also implemented the possibility for authorized copyright owners/their representatives/companies to ban illegal/copyrighted files from 4shared directly (a special type of account - direct ban account).
